What medium do you use?
Watercolor, Gouache, Acrylic, Digital

How do you stay inspired?
I’m always exploring. Travel is very inspiring, and being part of a community of creators is an endless source of inspiration.

Where do you buy your art supplies?
Mostly local art stores, but whenever I travel I try to bring home art supplies that would cost more here, like Schminke watercolors from Italy, or Holbein Gouache from Japan. I’ve also found some really awesome stuff on craigslist.

Do you work traditionally or digitally?

What color combination are you most excited about right now?
I can’t possibly choose one.

What blog(s) do you read?
Rebecca Green’s blog is one of my favorites. Also Picturebook Makers and Brwnpaperbag.

Why do you like being an illustrator in 10 words or less?
I love bringing my imagination into the physical world.

If you weren’t an illustrator, what would you be?
If I weren’t an artist, I’d want to be a particle physicist.

What illustration job would you love to get (your dream job)?
I would love to illustrate a Caldecott award-winning picture book, or a book that ends up inspiring a series or film. I’d love to illustrate magazine covers and design a suite of holiday cards and stickers and wrapping paper. And I’d love to design a mural.

Name something you do in your spare time.
I love video games, especially immersive ones where you can get lost in a good story.

What’s the strangest work experience you’ve ever had?
Probably designing about 30 different finger-sized costumes for a series of commercials. Let me tell you, you haven’t lived until you’ve dressed someone’s finger as a bagpiping Scotsman.

What are you reading now?
I’m rereading Little Women for a commission. And I’m always checking out new picture books from the library.

What recent book do you recommend for a good read?
I just finished La Belle Sauvage and loved it. I love anything by Philip Pullman.

Where would you like to travel to next?
I want to go everywhere, but Poland and Czech Republic are next on the list.

What’s your favorite TV show?
Twin Peaks forever

What movie have you seen several times?
Anything by Hayao Miyazaki

Who is your favorite cartoon character?
I’m usually too busy looking at the background art to notice characters. Just kidding, it’s Totoro.

Who are you in “The Office”?
I don’t know. The stapler?

What is your favorite cheese?
Humboldt Fog

If you could name a nail polish, what would you name it?
It doesn’t matter what I call it, I will still ruin it within five seconds.

Do you wear shoes when you do art?
I wear slippers sometimes, but not usually.

What do you listen to while you work?
Illustration podcasts, history podcasts, science podcasts, audio books, BBC radio dramas, music, etc. I’m not too picky. But I have to be careful about political podcasts because I’ll end up rage-drawing.

What artist are you reincarnated from?
I don’t know, but according to my grandmother, I’m related to Beatrix Potter.

If you could eat only one food, what would it be?
Ice cream? Mac’n’cheese? Mac’n’cheese flavored ice cream?

How do you stay in shape?
I volunteer walking dogs at the local shelter.

How don’t you stay in shape?
Mac’n’cheese flavored ice cream.

What is your current favorite font?
The Hand and West Italiano are favorites, and I’d love to use Montecatini for something.
