Where do you live?
I live in Perth, Australia.

Where have you lived?
I have lived in Southampton, Winchester, Oxford, Guildford, Bedford and London (UK), Yokohama and Kyoto (Japan), Wellington (NZ) and Sydney and Perth (Australia).

What medium do you use?
Pencils, gouache, acrylic gouache, watercolours, Photoshop, Illustrator and Procreate.

How do you stay inspired?
I draw all the time, keep my eyes open to what is around me and drink lots of tea! I take trips for a change of scenery, even if it’s a walk in my neighbourhood. I love spending time in Japan and find a lot of inspiration in just every day things like the shapes of houses or the colours on food packaging. I take lots of photos and write notes all the time. I also wear clothes that inspire me – it puts me in the mood to create.

Where do you buy your art supplies?
I buy a lot of my supplies in Tokyo – they have the best art supplies stores, stocked with everything you could ever want; the options are endless!

Do you work traditionally or digitally?
Both! But mostly traditionally at the moment. If I work digitally, I will always sketch / draw an idea first before moving to digital.

What color combination are you most excited about right now?
I am enjoying deep blues / pale blues / pinks / corals.

Why do you like being an illustrator in 10 words or less?
Doing what I love as a job is the best.

If you weren’t an illustrator, what would you be?
I wanted to be a midwife for a long time and was torn between that and being an artist. I love the thought of helping people and reaching out with kindness. I would also love to work with food or plants. I would love to own a cafe focussed on delicious healthy food and lots of tea choices, with a garden out the back where I would grow my own vegetables and flowers. The cafe would be full of flower posies from the garden and lots of art.

What illustration job would you love to get (your dream job)?
I’d love to illustrate more food packaging – for tea / chocolate / biscuits…

Name something you do in your spare time.
I love to knit and embroider. I also love to look after my large plant collection.

What’s the strangest work experience you’ve ever had?
I worked at a double glazing call centre. I lasted one shift!

What are you reading now?
“Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind” by Yuval Noah Harari.

What recent book do you recommend for a good read?
It’s not recent, but “The Queen and I” by Sue Townsend. My favourite book ever. I also love the classics and love escaping in to the Yorkshire moors with Emily Bronte’s “Wuthering Heights”.

Where would you like to travel to next?
Morocco or India for the beautiful buildings and colours.

What’s your favorite TV show?
Murder, She Wrote.

What movie have you seen several times?
Point Break (the original 90s version, of course!)

Who is your favorite cartoon character?
Kiki from “Kiki’s Delivery Service”

Who are you in “The Office”?
I’ve not really watched the US one, but I love Dawn in the UK version

What is your favorite cheese?
Pecorino with truffle.

If you could name a nail polish, what would you name it?
Strawberry Creme Brûlée.

Do you wear shoes when you do art?
No shoes in my house!

What do you listen to while you work?
Harry Potter audio books – the Stephen Fry ones.

What artist are you reincarnated from?
Josef Frank.

What’s your middle name?
Michiko.

What do you wish your middle name was?
I’m actually really happy with Michiko, I will keep it!

If you could eat only one food, what would it be?
Strawberry yogurt.

How do you stay in shape?
I walk everywhere! I just got a new bicycle so I’m looking forward to riding that around too.

How don’t you stay in shape?
Chocolate!

What is your current favorite font?
I am making an effort to hand letter everything at the moment and love looking at hand lettered fonts, each one is different and unique.

How do you take your coffee?
Always black.

Whom would you like to meet?
J B Fletcher and Columbo. Together.

What question would you most like to be asked?
Flora, would you like me to cook you a delicious three course meal every night?
