I love designing, new ideas and am inspired by anything creative. Besides art, I enjoy good food, books, interesting podcasts and traveling when I get the chance.

Salt Lake City, Utah

Where have you lived?
I’ve lived in Utah, Idaho, Montana and Arizona.

What medium do you use?
I mostly use pen, pencil, Illustrator and Photoshop.

How do you stay inspired?
I’m inspired by so much! I love color, books, vintage lettering and design, museums, textiles, travel, anything mid-century modern. I could go on and on, there is just so much out there to inspire ideas or a desire to create!

Where do you buy your art supplies?
A few local art stores.

Do you work traditionally or digitally?
Mostly digitally, but I always start with a pretty tight sketch or pen drawing.

What color combination are you most excited about right now?
I love all kinds of color combos, though lately I’ve been loving navy, pinks and oranges.

What blog(s) do you read?
There are so many! I love Print & Pattern, Apartment Therapy and The Dieline to name a few.

Why do you like being an illustrator in 10 words or less?
I love creating and the possibilities are endless.

If you weren’t an illustrator, what would you be?
Probably an interior designer or something involving lots of sweets.

What illustration job would you love to get (your dream job)?
I would love to create book covers for my favorite classics or a fabric line involving lots of florals.

Name something you do in your spare time.
I like to read, try new restaurants and spend time with family and friends.

What’s the strangest work experience you’ve ever had?
In college I had a cleaning job where I wore a large vacuum on my back and wandered around the building just vacuuming away. The job started at 4 a.m., so I’ll be honest, it didn’t last very long.

What are you reading now?
The ONE Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan.

What recent book do you recommend for a good read?
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield is excellent. I also just recently read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, which was incredibly fun.

Where would you like to travel to next?
Sweden or Scotland.

What’s your favorite TV show?
Right now it’s Project Runway.

What movie have you seen several times?
There a quite a few of these, but I never get tired of The Nightmare Before Christmas or Singing in the Rain.

Charlie Brown

Who are you in “The Office”?
Maybe Pam? I can be a little shy and am pretty sure I also had a bad perm at some point.

What is your favorite cheese?

If you could name a nail polish, what would you name it?
I’m currently wearing black right now, so all I can think of are names along that line! I’m going with Shadow for a dark gray.

Do you wear shoes when you do art?
Sometimes I’ll wear slippers, but mostly no shoes.

What do you listen to while you work?
I always have a podcast or audio book going!

Tammis Keefe

What’s your middle name?

What do you wish your middle name was?
I actually like May because both my first and middle names are named after my grandmothers.

If you could eat only one food, what would it be?

How do you stay in shape?
I eat pretty healthy (though I love sweets) and exercise just about everyday.

How don’t you stay in shape?
Pretty much anything with sugar in it.

What is your current favorite font?
I hand-letter most things to get the look I want, but when I need a good font, I love Gotham, Hellenic Wide, Baskerville and Adobe Caslon Pro.

How do you take your coffee?
I’m actually a tea person, so many options!

Whom would you like to meet?
Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, Monet, Mary Blair, Charlie Harper, Tammis Keefe, Jane Austen, C.S. Lewis, this list goes on and on…

What question would you most like to be asked?
Do you want to hear about the new scientifically-proven all-chocolate diet that totally works?

What was your favorite illustration assignment?
Recently I would say the Wanderlust illustration from the first round of the Global Talent Search. I had so much fun with that one.
