PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show
their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world,
inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat”, it rests on a presentation
format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It’s a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things
moving at a rapid pace.

“It’s official! The Honorable Mayor Michael Bloomberg, on behalf of the City of New York, has proclaimed the second week of November as the 5th Annual Celebration of Illustration Week. Thank you to Todd Lambrix, Director, Illustration Program at Parsons the New School for Design, Mark Heflin, Director, AI-AP, and Anelle Miller, Director, Society of Illustrators, whose collaborative efforts over this past year have made this a reality. So mark your calendars for some exceptional events coming up, starting this Friday, November 4th.

Highlights include Big Talk, a pre-party symposium celebrating the launch of American Photography 27 and American Illustration 30 on November 10th from 3-6pm at the Downtown Community Television Center at 87 Lafayette Street (south of Canal Street). Nicholas Blechman and Antonio de Luca, designers of the new AI30 andAP27 annuals respectively will talk about their current projects and chat with some of the jurors who selected this year’s winning images, including: Craig Cohen, powerHouse Books; Gail Marowitz, Roadrunner Records; Rachael Cole, Schwartz and Wade Books; David Saylor, Scholastic Inc. and AI30 cover artist Olimpia Zagnoli. Mati and I are so excited to announce that we are launching a brand new follow up e-course to the wildly popular Get Your Paint On (GYPO)! The new course is called Get Your Paint On: Beyond the Basics and will begin October 24. GYPO: Beyond the Basics features more instruction of technical painting skills like layering and creating dimension in your work. Lisa and Mati will share with you how they each approach painting through video demos, written reading on important topics, visual inspiration and support & guidance to participants. Each week will include a new video demonstration for more in depth instruction — from finding inspiration to color mixing to layering to creating depth and dimension. I thought some of your readers from London and near by might like to hear about the Caterham Vintage and Art Fair which is on Saturday September 17th from 11am to 5pm at Soper Hall in Caterham, Surrey.

I will have a stall selling paintings, prints, ceramics and cards.

As well as vintage clothes and art stalls there will be tea and cakes, a tombola and live music!
