See an illustrated Emily Dickinson cookbook, mosaic art, puzzle, modern rug, Glow campaign and more!

Agent Kim Fleming selected these fabulous images for you today. What a stunning range of products for which our artists were commissioned to create art. Enjoy!

This is my most favorite recent book. I was blown away by the art and text. C = Choose compassion, D= Discussing differences, P = Practice peace, R = Resist rumors. This book will change children’s lives and help create a new, even more kind and progressive generation.

Pairing big ideas like generosity, respect, and joy with the letters of the alphabet, Letters to Live By is a beautiful picture book that encourages children to make the most of each day and leave their mark on the world.

(Running Press)

This is a charming new board book series illustrated by Åsa Gilland that presents plants, animals, and the environment to early readers and helps them connect to the natural world. (Workman)
Buy them here and here.

We love the gorgeous, soothing cover illustrated by Mara Penny for the Emily Dickinson Cookbook (Quarto)

Wow! We love this mosaic kit illustrated by Tara Lilly for Djeco. There are four gorgeous animal designs to be completed with small pieces of glittery foam that work like stickers.

Here’s a pretty 1000-piece puzzle illustrated by Venice artist Marco Marella called Cities of the World (Legami). How fun would this be to do?

Katie Vernon was commissioned to create illustrations for the prestige skin care brand Algenist’s Holiday “Glow” campaign on Instagram.

Jenn Ski’s mid-century artwork was licensed by Rug & Kilim for rugs. Brilliant.

Let me share why I think these seven toy pitches are going to fly.

Riley here. I’m delighted to share with you seven extraordinary toy concepts that I’ve had the pleasure of working on with LRS artists. As a toy and game creator and agent, I see what’s selling and trending in the market. When I talk with people in the industry, they say this: parents and gift-givers crave unique play patterns, educational value, and standout art and design.

Scroll down to enjoy a handful of art-driven concepts your customers will love. Get ready to think about your next new product release!

Simply reply to this email to discuss or license one of our many toy and game concepts.
XO
Riley

Jungle safari stacking toy

Kids will practice fine motor skills as they fall in love with this stacking toy from Åsa. All the animals — the elephant, alligator, tiger, dog, and monkey — have such varied personality. It’s all in the eyes. But wait, look at that alligator, shaped like a little table.
Kids will get happily lost in the beautiful details! I can see this made of wood and packaged beautifully at retail. Look at that rope tail on the elephant: this could even become a stacking pull toy!
Contact me to license this concept or art.

Woodland magic matchup

In Bambi’s toy pitch, animals are clad in hats, ties, and sweaters in a beautiful memory match game. It’s loaded with swoon-worthy characters. They would make a great preschool activity or a stationery product. Look at that color palette and design of the snail’s shell! Can you imagine this in your line?
Contact me to license Bambi’s game and art.

Special delivery game

As Trina and I worked on this game, I fell in love with her delicate aesthetic even more. Her game pitch, Special Delivery, is an adventure through that oh-so-Trina countryside of winding cobblestone roads. Players navigate their routes, make deliveries, and are given surprise detours! This game of chance and route planning is perfect for 6 players ages 4-6.
Contact me to see the full pitch or to license Trina’s work.

Social-emotional toy & board book
Don’t cry over peeled onions! Sarah Walsh wrote and illustrated the book behind this playful plush concept. In this talking toy, kids listen and respond to feelings in a lighthearted, carefree way. This little guy will get kids talking and laughing as they build their social-emotional learning (SEL) skills. Toy companies tell me that SEL toys are more popular than ever — I see this trend becoming the norm.
Sarah’s unique author-illustrated book is also available for license. I’ve never seen anything like it. Contact me to license her book or talking plush concept.

Munch card game

Mara’s exquisite botanical details, striking animal illustrations, and hand lettering truly set this card game apart, plus it’s a ton of fun to play.
Munch has a twist that sets it apart: the game features educational facts about the ecosystem and food chain.
Contact me to see the full pitch. Grab it before it’s gobbled up!

Repeat, repeat!

We’ve conjured up this beautiful and challenging one-player brainteaser that’s deceptively difficult! Solve all 12 puzzles and you’ll be called a legend. Big bonus: the puzzle game increases visuo-spatial skills.
Zoe Ingram’s intricate repeat patterns are mesmerizing. I get lost in the details she draws. Can you spot the tiny violet stars? How many stems can you find? For 1 player, ages 8 to adult.
Contact me to see the full pitch. Hurry, while supplies last!

you do you-nicorn

The You Do You-nicorns make their debut in this memory match game by our very own Erin Vanessa. This adorable team of diverse unicorns will help children practice their concentration skills as they sharpen their short-term memory. Better yet, kids will see that diversity is the way to play! For one or more players.
Contact me to license Erin’s sweet, diverse characters.

Do you like getting gorgeous postcards? A survey. Plus Sarah Walsh’s brand-new puzzle.

Personally, we love getting mail and we love sending you our pretty postcards with our artists’ latest and most gorgeous work. We’ve scaled way back due to Covid, but we’re thinking of rebooting the card mailings. Loads of our art directors tell us they love them, save them, and pin them to their walls.
Here’s the rub: We know lots of you are still working from home, so we wondered if you’re getting your business mail. Susan and Kim called around and got a mix of responses. Some of you are going into the office sporadically and getting your mail; some of you are back in the office full time, and some are getting your mail forwarded to home.
So we thought: let’s do a poll. We’d love to hear from you.
Above: Our postcard front, mailed in July of this year to our art directors, editors and others who buy art. This card featured cherished original paintings by our artists, past and present.
Above: A recent postcard. Art by Åsa Gilland.
See what I mean? Our cards are pretty.

Art directors, editors, art buyers: we’d love to hear from you.
(The poll only lets you pick one answer, just so you know.)
We’re thinking of sending out our pretty postcards again. Which one applies?
I’m back in the office and get my mail there.
I work from home but my mail is forwarded to me.
I work from home and my mail is NOT forwarded to me.
I go into the office about once a week or so and get my mail.
I go into the office like once a month or whatever and get my mail then.
I don’t go into the office. I don’t get my mail. I’m sure there’s a giant pile.
Other.

featuring Helen Dardik.
Are you an art buyer or editor? Would you like receive our postcards which we send out about 7 or 8 times a year? Or are you already on our mailing list but would like to give us a new address?
Simply reply to this email.

Class starts October 18th!

Did you know that I teach a writing course? I created it a few years ago after years of working with artists on their writing their own books and from co-teaching my picture book course, Illustrating Children’s Books (available 2022) and Illustrating Children’s Books Plus with art director/author Zoë Tucker on my e-course platform, Make Art That Sells.
Basically, my philosophy is this:
Creating a unique picture book comes from understanding what makes you unique and discovering the story you’re excited to tell. To help you do this, I’ve created a playful, personalized and structured course called My Kid Book Pitch that will bring out your special story. It’s packed full of quirky worksheets, Magic Cards, fun exercises and weekly interactive LIVE videos that will guide you step by step to create your own special brilliant story – the story that only you can write. I hope you’ll join me October 18th! Learn more or sign up here. Personally, I can’t wait for this one.

Our artists prove it : PLAY is the WAY

Hello! Riley here. I just finished teaching My Toy Pitch with Lilla, our five-week toy development course. We saw hundreds of concepts each week. Our artists AMAZED ME with their work. From characters to games to playsets, our artists produced toy pitches across so many categories. In each class review, I felt as though I was walking up and down the toy aisles.
Scroll down and you’ll see what I’m giggling about. Lilla, Susan, Kim and I are dazzled by the toys and games that’ll soon be tumbling out of toyboxes around the world.

WARNING: these are only a tiny sampling of what our artists have in the works. Check out the toy design section of our website for more, or give us a holler. We’d love to serve up some candy-coated art for any kid-friendly project you’re considering.

Here’s your Big Reveal of work from class: Memory Match games created by our own artists.

Check it out! I’m always thrilled when my artists take my Make Art That Sells courses. I’m delighted to show you the work that they created for the very last assignment for Bootcamp. (There were 900 students in that class. It’s a popular one). The assignment was to create a memory match card game, and my artists’ work always shines. Mama proud.

These are available for license, and as always, our artists are available to create custom art for your project.

If you’re interested in creating gorgeous, special, original toys, hop on over to MATS as today is the very last day to sign up for My Toy Pitch. It’s the very first time we’re running it, and the energy in class is invigorating! I am honored and thrilled to co-teach with former Mattel Creative Director and storehouse of knowledge, who as you probably know, is now our very own Toy, Game and Entertainment agent, Riley Wilkinson.

RILEY WILKINSON
I’m Riley Wilkinson.
This grownup never grew up.

Lilla Rogers Studio’s new Toy Design Department is now my home as Toy and Game Agent and Inventor. I bring years of award-winning know-how as a toy, game, and Children’s Content Inventor and Creative Director. I’m developing toys, games, and story world concepts with LRS artists which are available for license.

Are you a product developer, art director, or product acquisitions manager at a toy or game company? Contact me to discuss and view our concepts available for licens

My decades of insights and experience are now part of Lilla’s unique offering. Over the last 25 years, I’ve worked with Mattel Creations, American Girl, AARP, Educational Insights, MGA, Scholastic, and more.

I began in the 1990s designing and art directing magazines, children’s educational books, stickers, wood puzzles, fine motor skill activity kits, and classroom décor. For the next 20+ years, I developed children’s electronics, preschool and children’s games, family games, science toys, classroom activities, talking globes, novels, and sporting goods. Some Sea Monkeys swam into the scene at one point: I even pitched a carnival ride for those critters!

Mass market buyers, specialty retailers, catalog developers, toy industry leaders, and eCommerce professionals have relied on me to develop and deliver innovative, imaginative products.
