Creative People and Sadness
Dear Creative People,
My heart is breaking for the people of Japan. And Libya, Haiti, Katrina…
I know for creative people especially, these things hurt deeply, and can take us away from our joyful creativity. I want to encourage you to find the will to continue to create, make art, sing, dance. It helps uplift everyone. That’s why mother nature made the arts. To uplift spirits during hard times. Use your gifts to contribute in that way.
Please let me know your thoughts.

I’ve been devastated watching what’s happening in Japan. It’s such an amazing country..the people are so welcoming and kind. It’s been highly responsible for inspiring me to be an illustrator. I hope I will be able to go back there one day soon. xx
I completely agree with you. These days I feel confused. Sometimes I ask myself if what I’m doing has some sense or not, compared with everything happening all around the world.
thank you for these heartfelt words. when great suffering like this occurs, making art feels like a way of hiding from the real world or just doing something frivolous… but, in my heart i do know better than this. when we make art, we bring beauty and joy into the lives of others. it is our small way of healing the world and perhaps leaving it just a little bit better, sparklier, sillier, or lovelier than we found it. art does heal… and, as lilla encourages, keep making art.
If I were a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, now I’d say “Kwnabuoga, dude!”
