Mosiac Lesson, Part I

Today I’m going to show you some mosaic raw materials. These are beach glass, beach pottery, beach stones, and my latest passion, beach plastic. This is a nice summer project.
Tomorrow I’m going to show you how to use these to create a mosaic. I’ll show you a birdhouse and an odd sign I made.
I just want to say that right now I’m listening to the soundtrack to Hair and I’m so loving it. Give it a shot when you get a chance. I got good times man, I got my hair, I got my brains, I got my mouth…I got freedom, brother…

Lilla does some silk painting, Part I

Here’s some silk painting I’m working on. It’s such an amazing medium. I’m going to make a tie for my husband. Check back to see the tie at some point. Right now, you’re seeing the brown line which is a resist which prevents the dyes from bleeding. Check out how the silk is stretched on an upside-down canvas on stretchers which I had lying around. Let me know if you’d like me to talk about technique on this.

We’re going to Surtex in NYC at Javitz Center May 18 – 20 to show over 1,000 new images to the licensing community. We hope to sell and license lots of work like last year. We’ll be meeting with great folks from Chronicle, teNeues, Land of Nod, Colorbok, Galison, and others. It’s a thrill for us to present our artists’ work to some of the great tastemakers of our time. So, of course, we need to have fab tool belts to hold all our stuff as we work our booths. I’ve sewn one for each of the Lilla Rogers Studio staff who will be in attendance; that’s Ashley, Susan, Julia, and me. See how I have art buttons on here? We’ll be giving these away. That’s Mike Lowery’s pirate pin.
