A FREE gorgeous 28-page activity PDF for you chock full of original projects by our genius artists.

When the pandemic hit, we had a meeting. We asked ourselves, what can we do that a) has value for our readership, and b) is great promo for our artists? We came up with two ideas. The first you already know about: a 13-part series of Zoom WebinARTS featuring our brilliant artists.
We’ve gotten a great reception to our WebinARTS, and I’m happy to announce our next one is this Thursday featuring an artist that has been with me since 1999! Sarajo Frieden, who lives in Los Angeles, has an impressive client list: from a very cool All-Bran campaign for Leo Burnett to an extensive Godiva packaging program; Paramount Pictures; major ad agencies; Penguin Random House, Scholastic, and loads of magazines. I love eccentric and lovable Sarajo for a number of reasons, and I know you’ll enjoy meeting her.
Read on for the other idea that we came up with. (It’s a FREE download.)

free ARTivities PDF for you!
We had an idea to make an activities PDF that our followers could enjoy during this time. What could be more fun than pages of games and crafts?
When we asked our artists if they were interested in contributing, we were blown away by the number of artists that joined in and the caliber of work.
We are incredibly excited to gift you with our free 28-page gorgeous ARTivities booklet with projects created by 15 of our brilliant artists.
Paper dolls? Got you covered.
Word Search? It’s in there.
Quarantine Bingo? Of course!
Enjoy these fun activities to keep you (and the kids) entertained. It’s our gift to you during this time.
Yeah, part of our devious plan is to entice art directors and editors to be inspired to commission a book, or an article, or a toy or game from this work. Hey, I wasn’t born as an agent yesterday.
All the work inside is brand-new and available for licensing.
Here’s a sneak peek of some activities in the booklet:

How are you coping these days? We hope you are finding ways of keeping healthy, happy, and hopeful. Our artists continue to use their wit and talent to deal with these extraordinary times.

Join me as I chat with five of my stellar artists when we take a break from the week-long virtual Residency to chat with you TODAY at 12:30 PM ET. I’ll ask them about their working process, how they magically dreamed up their ideas for their children’s picture book pitches, the hardest part and easiest part of making their pitch, PLUS they’ll possibly show a sneak peek of what they’re working on. It’s not to be missed!

Art directors and editors tell us that they’re looking for author/illustrator book pitches (probs because artists are so cool and imaginative), so we dreamed up our latest caper–our Residency–which is an incredible incubator for five of my artists to work on their authored/illustrated picture book pitches.

I’m in the midst of working with them this entire week while they dive into my latest course (ahead of the public launch) called My Kid Book Pitch that I’ll be offering in October. My six artists will have brilliant and highly original pitches–including texts and sample spreads–finished by the end of the week or shortly thereafter.

Art Directors and Editors: Contact us or simply reply to this email to get your hands on what I promise will be pitches that will shine.

You don’t want to miss this. Can’t watch it live? We’ll send you the link for the replay next week in our newsletter or look for it on the Lilla Rogers home page this Friday.

We have a big announcement. PLUS: need a happy distraction? We’ve got a puzzle for you.

Recently, I chatted with our team over here in Boston. I asked, “How can we contribute? How can we make this time more interesting for our community? How can we promote our artists in a fresh way that our art directors will enjoy?” Then we came upon an idea.

We’re excited to announce our new public free series: Lilla’s WebinARTs, where each week I’ll chat with one of my artists on Zoom. They’ll discuss what it was like to work on a recent project, plus show some brand-new work.
I’ll ask my artists things like what their very favorite illustration project was and why, what makes a great art director, what color combination they are loving these days, tips on working from home, what they are reading right now, and more. I’m so excited that our very first WebinART will feature Mara Penny.

Puzzles by our artists…
Nothing beats boredom like a good old-fashioned puzzle. They’re quickly becoming the new stay-in fad. There’s a reason why we keep assigning so many: they are fun for all ages. Here are a few you might like to add to your collection.

Meet Katie Vernon. See why art directors from Porsche to Anthropologie love to commission Katie.

Here’s why we went nuts the very first time we saw Katie Vernon’s work: We loved her original style and her mastery of watercolor mixed with a dollop of charming weirdness, and we think this is why so many art directors–from Porsche to Anthropologie–commission her work.

We put together a show of some of our favorite projects that Katie has illustrated, from books, to teepees, to giant maps.

Here’s a big reveal of one of my Menagerie assignments for my artists

I’m delighted to reveal one of the assignments I gave our artists for the Lilla’s Art Menagerie which we launched last week. I asked artists to create a portrait of Awkwafina in a mid-century stylish environment. It’s always interesting to see a range of artists’ interpretations of the same assignment. Hope you enjoy the show!
