Years ago, I relished being a full-time illustrator. Among my favorite projects were editorial assignments. Why? I loved getting manuscripts to curl up with and pore over. It was an opportunity to draw a vast range of things–for example, I was commissioned to draw a portrait of Tom Petty for Rolling Stone, or Syrian mosques for a Japanese travel magazine.
