Suzy Ultman’s Bathroom Decor Collection – It’s a Hoot

Suzy writes:

“Hi Lilla!
Creative Bath did an amazing job interpreting my original “Give A Hoot” artwork into a bathroom decor collection. I’m in love with the fuzzy winking owl rug. What’s your favorite piece?”

Suzy Ultman’s road to “Happy Trails”

Suzy writes:

“Hi Lilla.
With a majority of my projects, the production path is a straight, predictable line. Every once in a while, someone decides to take a risk and try something new. It’s a process full of problem solving & hard work, but the payoff is fantastic.

For “Happy Trails”, we were entering new Chronicle Books territory, creating a journal made of felt & embroidery. I’ve included images from important points in the process: (1) My very own hand-sewn mock-up which was sent to the factory in China for reference. (2) The production file referencing thread weight & stitch type. and (3) Voila! It’s the final journal in all of it’s felty glory.

Suzy Ultman’s Crate & Barrel Ornaments and Holiday Fun

Suzy writes:

“Lilla,
These holiday charmers are hand-painted, engineered wood ornaments with hinged hats for concealing tiny treasure. The nutcracker set began as a stationery project for Madision Park Greetings. Then, the little comrades were adopted by Crate&Barrel, and infused with new life as 3-D ornaments. It was a treat working with both clients.

“Partridge in a Pear Tree” boxed notes are also available from Madison Park, and “Sew Festive” is available through my etsy shoppe.”

Suzy U – Open for Business (ETSY & more)

Suzy writes:

“Hi Lilla.
I am so excited about selling my prints online and at local venues. My ETSY shop opens for business on October 4th. Hooray! (Click here to visit Suzy’s Etsy shop.)

This weekend, I participated in the Igloo Press Anniversary Bazaar. The event featured a wonderful group of local artists, jewelers, crafters and foodies. I sold some goodies, made some new friends, and enjoyed the warm vibe of the Columbus creative community. I spent the entire day stationed across from the Patty Cake Bakery booth, so I was thrilled when I finally got my very own chocolate cupcake. Life doesn’t get much sweeter. Mmmmmm…..”

Suzy U & Chronicle: Stationery Bliss (Part 2)

Suzy writes:

“Lilla,
The Masha and Friends package reads, “display your dolls as a set or send them out on postal adventures”. I decided to take my Masha on an adventure to Sedona, AZ. Think Eastern Bloc meets the Wild West.

Masha enjoyed the natural beauty, local artistry and mud wraps, but was slightly winded on the hike up Cathedral Rock. It must have been the energy vortex. Aside from being a bit slow on the trail, she was a great companion. Enjoy the photos from our spirited journey together!” (Read Part I of Stationery Bliss here.)

Suzy U & Chronicle: Stationery Bliss (Part 1)

Our artist Suzy writes:
“Lilla,
There are some clients who make you better: Chronicle Books is one of those clients. Their process encourages me to playfully dive into the project. We all take our work seriously but we have a lot of fun.

“Masha & Friends” is the happy ending to the tale of a young girl who collected dolls from around the world, painted wood objects in the workshop with her dad, and spent hours writing to penpals on sacred sets of Sandra Boynton stationery with matching stickers.

The Masha set is interactive with every layer considered, including a pop-up feature to display the dolls. I hope the cards bring out the girl in you too. You can purchase them here.”
